Before the Link Centre arrived... 2015 MARKS 30 years since the vision of
Thamesdown Council to create a huge new
leisure centre in West Swindon came to
fruition.
We’ve delved into the archives to show the
farmer’s fields before they were consumed
by Link Centre and Shaw Ridge Leisure Park.
On the left is the West Swindon District
Centre with the garden centre built when it
opened.
In the distance is Toothill and the
Ridgeway, with the church spire and the first
primary school visible.
On the right of the picture is a digger
starting the work to extend Tewkesbury Way
towards Shaw and Peatmoor.
