Many people, whether local or just visiting, come to Swindon looking for a good time. They are wise to do so as, with a wealth of bars and nightclubs and the student town of Reading nearby, there are no shortage of things to do.
Here are some of the best nights out and places to party in Reading.
The Old Bank
First up is The Old Bank which is a stylish bar that has been cleverly laid out across three fabulous floors. At the top, there is a huge dancefloor, perfect for letting it all go. Below this there is the lounge room for a cool down session with a first-rate restaurant on the bottom level. Your perfect night can begin or end here as the chic, informal, continental style venue has everything you need. It has recently been announced that Marco Pierre White has taken it over making it into a high class Italian eaterie.
Mackenzies
For a quick bite before you head out, try Mackenzies, located in the heart of Wood Street, which has become something of a hotspot on weekend evenings. The bistro’s popular music policy, chilled out atmosphere and deeply well-stocked bar are just a few of the reasons why revellers come back time and time again. Also, great for the morning after when a lifesaving breakfast might be the order of the day!
Baker Street
As cool as its name suggests, the Baker Street bar offers lively Friday and Saturday night parties in stylishly sexy surroundings. With a suitably impressive cocktail offering, the bar has earned its trendy reputation at the forefront of Old Town's party scene. Party goers can enjoy a “happy hour” in the early evening where cocktails are 2-4-1 before 10.00pm plus, for a more exclusive feel, try the small VIP area which can be found near the back of the venue.
Tree
visitors to Tree will need to dress up for the evening if they are to get past the doorman here as this is one of the finest, and most original, eateries In Old Town. This exclusive, hard to miss club is a fancy restaurant by day but, come the evening, the famous Swindon spire is lit up like a Bat signal that lets revellers know the party is about to start. It goes without saying that party goers should expect queues around the block with fellow thrill seekers desperate to get in on the action. Inside, two floors are combined and used for the nightclub that also boasts a VIP area with hostesses on hand to serve drinks. The first floor is mainly used for dance and R‘ n’ B music, while upstairs is far more chilled out. The bar’s centre piece is a huge disco ball worth more than £2,000, while there are also 3D wall projections and drapes that cover the illuminated walls, that point to a no expense spared interior upon design.
Boston Brother's
Set over two floors, Boston Brother's is a trendy bar that, thanks to a friendly and welcoming vibe, has quickly established itself as one of Swindon's most popular downtown nightlife venues. The bar’s spacious layout makes it perfect for early evening cocktails, a speciality here. So special in fact, that the bar’s operators run cocktail making masterclass, something we urge everybody to try. Upstairs there is the dance floor which hosts regular DJs and a 90’s night, popular with the young, keen on a bit of retro. This is a bar that should be a stop on everyone’s bar crawl.
