Bellway has sponsored a team of dancers from Swindon to compete in this year’s Dance World Cup.
A total of 25 students from Swindon Academy of Dance have qualified to represent England in the competition, which is being held in Braga, Portugal from Friday 30 June to Saturday 8 July.
Bellway’s £400 donation will help to fund the Team England kit and dance costumes the students need to compete in the event.
The developer is building new homes at Ridgeway Park in Wroughton and Redlands Grove in Wanborough, just a few miles from Wilkes Academy Studios, where Swindon Academy of Dance is based.
Sarah Watson, Principal at Swindon Academy of Dance, said: “The Dance World Cup is considered to be the Olympics of the dance world with over 60 countries being represented and over 20,000 dancers taking part.
“This is a trip of a lifetime for the students who will have the opportunity to show off their talent to the world as the competition is streamed live on the internet. We’re extremely grateful for any sponsorship and Bellway’s contribution will make a huge difference to our expenses and associated costs with buying the new kits.”
The sponsorship was organised by Irena Osborne, mum of Neo, who is taking part in the competition.
She said: “Having seen Bellway were building homes in Swindon, I decided to make contact and see whether they would sponsor our students.
“Each competitor requires an official England kit and each dance comes with its own costume. The money Bellway has contributed will be divided equally between the 25 children to help pay for this.”
Rachel Way, Sales Manager for Bellway South West, said: “Swindon Academy of Dance plays a key role within the community in Swindon and offers the opportunity to learn dance for children of different ages and abilities.
“When Irena reached out to us and told us that the academy was looking for sponsorship for the Dance World Cup 2023 we were more than happy to get involved.
"It’s so impressive that some of their students have qualified to represent England at international level and we wish them the best of luck in the competition.”
