Business ramps up social media training as pandemic eases

Businesses are turning to social media training as a way of dialling up their marketing as the country begins to recover from the pandemic.

Yola O’Hara, Managing Director of Visually Explained (VE), which specialises in social media for business, reports that demand for training has rocketed since the spring as business look to build their brands.

VE, based in Royal Wootton Bassett, has delivered multiple training sessions in LinkedIn and Instagram, with LinkedIn proving the most popular for businesses and – according to Yola – the most effective.

She said: “We have clients we are setting up on social media across multiple platforms, but in the main people are intrigued by Instagram, so want to understand more about it, and impressed by LinkedIn, because of the results it can bring.”

Yola has found that post-lockdown there is a marked increase in interest in social media as a marketing tool, as business seek to rebuild and grow.

“There is a definite mood for training as businesses and organisations move out of Covid restrictions. It does feel as if something has changed,” she added. 

“People want to understand LinkedIn primarily, with Instagram coming a close second. LinkedIn is such a valuable platform, because it is an easy form of communicating and networking and businesses see the benefits it brings. 

"But it is complex and to get the full value from it as a social media marketing tool requires a degree of knowledge, and also a consistent, methodical approach. Training offers this.”

Yola contributed to Gloucestershire Growth Hub’s two-day Digital Leaders Academy, training delegates on LinkedIn. She’s also run training courses on how to use Instagram, for organisations including the networking group Businesswomen In.

Yola believes the increase in training demand is also businesses’ response to the surge in the time people are spending online. A report by communications watchdog Ofcom, in June 2020, revealed that adults spend on average four hours a day online.

Yola said: “Marketing and building a brand through social media can no longer be ignored, and having training in how to use the platforms makes it all the more effective.”
