Cala submits proposals for 47 new homes in Purton

Cala Homes (Cotswolds) has submitted plans to Wiltshire Council to build new homes in Purton on the outskirts of Swindon.

On land included in the neighbourhood plan at Restrop Road in Purton, Cala has proposed the delivery of 47 homes, 19 of which will be affordable homes. 

The firm says every new home on the site would be equipped with electric vehicle charging points and air source heat pumps – a low carbon technology that extracts heat from the outside air to provide both hot water and heating throughout the home - to help residents reduce their carbon emissions. 

Each home would also have bird nesting features, specialist hedgehog fencing, bat boxes or bat roosting tiles and native tree planting, while a pond would be created to welcome new species to the site and existing hedgerows which are home to local wildlife retained. 

Charles Rafferty, Land Director at Cala Homes (Cotswolds) said: “We’re delighted to share our vision for delivering these high-quality new homes in Purton, Wiltshire particularly as this is the first development that Cala hopes to bring to the county. 

"Our plans would bring a variety of choice for house hunters by offering a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, including maisonettes and bungalows. The mix of options means there will be suitable homes for first-time buyers, families and downsizers.

“The submission of our plans for these 47 homes, with 19 being affordable, is a step towards supporting Wiltshire Council with its continued target to ensure housing availability and affordability throughout the county.

As part of the plans, Cala is also proposing the creation of further public open space and a play area. Through its Section 106 Agreement, Cala says it will contribute £200,000 towards the local sports facility, early years education, waste and recycling and traffic regulation improvements. The firm will also enhance and create footpaths to ensure its new residents can benefit from travel links. Traffic calming measures will also be installed upon entering and exiting the village.
