Swindon-based commercial lawyers Clark Holt are bolstering the firm for the future with a trio of promotions and appointments.
Co-founder Jeremy Colt who is retiring
Peter James has been promoted to Head of Commercial and Belinda Walters is now a Partner. The firm has also welcomed experienced solicitor Renata Lovat Short as Real Estate Associate. Peter joined Clark Holt in 2010 and specialises in commercial law, with particular expertise in the IT sector, intellectual property and employment law.
Peter said: “I’m pleased to be taking over as Head of the firm’s Commercial Department that delivers pragmatic, commercial advice that reflects the real world. I look forward to continuing working with our diverse and interesting clients long into the future.”
Appointed to Partner in the Commercial Department, Belinda Walters has more than 20 years' experience as a commercial lawyer, advising on a wide range of commercial contracts plus intellectual property, IT, data protection - including GDPR - and non-contentious employment matters. She was also previously Senior Solicitor of Business and Legal Affairs at Sky.
Renata Lovat Short has also joined Clark Holt as Real Estate Associate from Marlborough-based Merrimans, after an early career in the City and later at well-established commercial property firms. Renata brings a wealth of commercial property experiencein areas including freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals, business lease negotiations and renewals and property portfolio management.
The firm will also see two long-standing faces retire: co-founder Jeremy Holt and Real Estate Senior Associate Roger Brockington, who has specialised in commercial property at Clark Holt since 2006.
Jeremy Holt set up Clark Holt in 1995 with Richard Clark and since then the firm has grown organically, concentrating on providing excellent legal advice for a range of clients across the Commercial, Corporate and Real Estate sectors. Jeremy said: “After previously working for big city law firms in London, we set up Clark Holt with the ambition to offer the service and expertise of a big city law firm, but with the client focus, cost-effectiveness and entrepreneurial approach of a smaller independent practice. I’ll be leaving the firm in very capable and experienced hands: there are a lot of knowledgeable and accomplished people at the helm and in our teams and the opportunities ahead for the firm are very exciting.”
Philip Humphreys, who leads the firm as Managing Partner, said “We have a focused and specialist team of the highest quality, with impressive skills, strengths and experience covering between us a broad range of non-contentious commercial activity.
