Swindon scrap metal and waste-collection firm G Waste Ltd has arranged a community Cclear-up to inspire people in the town to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.

The G Waste Community Clear-up will take place on Saturday, 23 September at the Southbrook Inn, Southbrook Street from noon to about 2pm.

G Waste director Greg Wilkes came up with the idea after becoming dismayed at the amount of litter he sees dumped across Swindon on his daily travels.

He hopes the event will inspire people to take better care of their own communities and think twice about dropping litter in the first place.

The G Waste team are appealing for the local community to turn up in force to support the event, and G waste will be providing hi-vis vests, litter pickers, gloves and litter bags so people can just turn up on the day and be one big team.

If the event is a success, Greg hopes to run more community clear-ups throughout the town.

He said: “As a professional waste carrier, we see a lot of awful sights on your travels and a lot of that is litter, waste and fly-tipping.

“I find it very frustrating to see our town being turned into an eyesore by the careless and selfish people who needlessly drop litter and dump waste. The whole population needs to look after our town. We do aim to make a difference in Swindon and our own community.

“The aim is to clean up the area in and around Ferndale, Cheney Manor and Pinehurst whilst also inspiring others to do this as often as possible. I hope the event will also encourage people not to drop litter or dump waste in our town.

“It would be great to see lots of friendly faces of all ages and even your dogs. We will do more community clean-ups across Swindon.”
