A Swindon-born business which helped to pioneer online legal services in the UK is celebrating a major milestone — its 25th anniversary.
Founded in 1999 by local resident Mark Keenan, pictured, Divorce-Online was the first service in the country to offer online divorce paperwork and support for people looking to separate amicably, without paying high solicitor fees.
What began as a side project from his living room has now grown into a £2m-plus legal tech business, helping over 200,000 people across England and Wales navigate divorce and secure financial settlements.
Mark said: “I bought my first PC from PC World on Greenbridge and launched a website with a £100 investment. Back then, I was told it would never work — but we proved them wrong, and we’re still here in Swindon 25 years later.”
Divorce-Online now employs over 25 staff across Swindon and Llanelli and owns its own regulated law firm, OLS Solicitors, which handles more complex legal work such as consent orders and financial settlements.
The business has even helped public figures such as Gary Lineker, Kieran Hayler and Michelle Bux to separate without court battles.
However, Mark says it’s the thousands of everyday people who have used Divorce-Online that matter most.
He added: “For people going through divorce, it’s not just about saving money — it’s about reducing stress and getting their lives back. That’s what keeps us going.”
Despite their national reach, the company has stayed local. Divorce-Online’s offices remain in Swindon, where the business supports local jobs, apprenticeships, and training in legal and tech roles.
North Swindon MP Will Stone said: “It’s fantastic to see a home-grown Swindon business not only survive but lead the way in a competitive sector. Mark and the team should be incredibly proud of what they’ve built here.”
The company specialises in fixed-fee divorce, financial consent orders and prenuptial agreements, and operates in partnership with its regulated sister firm, OLS Solicitors.
