Swindon Borough Council is urging businesses to back its bid for the town to house the Great British Railways HQ.
The Government is due to announce a shortlist of possible locations for the new body, which will oversee national railway infrastructure, in May.
A total of 41 other towns and cities have also submitted bids, and over the next few weeks the council aims to demonstrate the level of local energy and support behind Swindon’s bid from across the community.
A spokesperson said in its latest business newsletter: "That’s where we need your help. Demonstrating public support is one of the main competition criteria.
"So we’d appreciate your help, creativity and energy to publicly bang the drum and show your support for the bid and why you think Swindon should be shortlisted."
Businesses can help by:
- Completing a survey which can be found at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/8M0Q
- Using their social media channels to declare support, perhaps with a short clip explaining the benefits a successful bid will bring
- Tweeting or posting on LinkedIn or Facebook, using the #DestinationGBR hastag
- Sharing the #DestinationGBR content the council posts on its own channels, including on social media and via newsletters.
- Promoting the council's dedicated webpage, https://www.swindon.gov.uk/destinationgbr
- Nominating media spokespeople to voice organisations' support for the bid
The council said in the newsletter: "With such healthy competition from other towns and cities, your help could really make the difference to Swindon’s bid – demonstrating why it would make a first class location.
"If you need any more information or have any questions, just let us know by emailing [email protected]
"Thanks in advance for your support - with your help, we can make sure Swindon stays on the tracks to success."
