Mayor of Swindon Cllr Garry Perkins performed the official opening of the Show Suite at Gilbert Place.

The development is the latest from leading manager and developer of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone.

To mark the occasion, Cllr Perkins joined the McCarthy Stone team and Sheila, the first retiree to reserve an apartment at Gilbert Place, to perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Retirement Living Plus development on Lowry Way.

Cllr Perkins said: “I was delighted to be invited to the opening of the Show Suite at Gilbert Place. I was really pleased to see the excellent development which will help boost the choice for older people in Swindon and beyond.”

Verity McKay, Divisional Marketing Manager at McCarthy Stone, said: “It was fantastic to mark this latest milestone at Gilbert Place. We are all incredibly proud of the development and we were delighted to be able to unveil the impressive show suite to Cllr Garry Perkins – the feedback so far has been very positive indeed.”

The celebration also provided the opportunity for Cllr Perkins and Sheila to take a guided tour of Gilbert Place, enjoy a glass of fizz and toast to her new apartment.

Local retired people are invited to make an appointment for a one-to-one, socially-distanced tour of the new Show Suite at Gilbert Place, take a look at the lifestyle on offer and find out more about how the development can help them get to the most out of their retirement years.

Verity McKay added: “We know that for many of us, lockdown has made us reassess our housing needs, and we are seeing more retirees deciding to take the plunge and downsize their home.

"The low maintenance living available at Gilbert Place allows retirees to stay independent for longer, become part of a thriving community and spend their time doing the things they love. I would encourage anyone looking to downsize to book a one-to-one appointment and visit our new Show Suite now.”

When complete, Gilbert Place will comprise what are billed as stunning one and two-bedroom apartments for the over-70s, with the first occupants expected to move in soon.

Future homeowners at the Gilbert Place Retirement Living Plus development will have access to a communal lounge, landscaped gardens maintained by McCarthy Stone’s team and a guest suite for when family and friends come to stay.

For those who may require a little additional help, Gilbert Place will also have an on-site estate manager and an experienced team will be on hand day and night to oversee the running of the development, and to provide tailored domestic support packages to suit individual needs. The development will also feature its own bistro-style restaurant serving freshly prepared meals every day, while secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace of mind.

Prices at Gilbert Place currently start from £245,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and £329,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. Rental and part-buy, part-rent options are also available.
