The UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities said it worked alongside the local authority and Professional Ecological Consultants to conserve and enhance the natural environment at Gilbert Place.

Located in the landscaped gardens of the development on Lowry Way, Swindon, is a high number of native and ornamental wildlife planting species, in addition to integrated bee bricks, terraced sparrow boxes and Manthorpe swift bricks.

Nicki Beswarick, Divisional Marketing Manager at McCarthy Stone Southern, said: “As a company, our responsibility goes further than building quality, purpose-built retirement properties, we also aim to create an eco-friendly environment within our communities.

“We’re really proud to be able to help protect the local environment at our Gilbert Place development in Swindon, and we look forward to launching more initiatives like this in the future.”

80-year-old Mr Manners, homeowner at Gilbert Place, said: “I’m a semi-retired farmer so I do have some ecological experience, and when I saw the fantastic bee bricks, bird boxes and wildlife plants I was absolutely over the moon.

“It’s fantastic to see the team at McCarthy Stone do their bit to help the environment, and it’s truly wonderful to see the bees going in and out of the bricks. I can’t wait to help out with this brilliant project.”

Gilbert Place comprises of a host of one and two-bedroom apartments exclusively designed for the over 70s.

Homeowners at the Gilbert Place Retirement Living Plus development also have access to a communal lounge, said to be perfect for socialising with new neighbours, as well as landscaped gardens maintained by McCarthy Stone’s team. They also have access to a guest suite for when family and friends come to stay.

For those who may require a little additional help, Gilbert Place also has an on-site Estate Manager, and an experienced team on hand day and night to oversee the running of the development, and to provide tailored domestic support packages to suit individual needs.

The development also features its own bistro style restaurant serving freshly prepared meals every day, while secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points are said to provide added peace-of-mind.

Prices at Gilbert Place currently start from £240,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and £330,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. Rental and part-buy, part-rent options are also available.

More than nine out of ten customers are said to recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation. McCarthy Stone says it is the only UK housebuilder, of any size or type, to achieve this rating every year it has taken part in the survey.
