Swindon brewery Arkell's has released a special dark ale to commemorate the Coronation.
The 4.5 percent ABV limited edition brew, called Coronation Ale, is described as a smooth, chocolatey, traditional style dark ale with a surprising light easy drinking body, brewed using traditional methods in the Victorian brewery.
It will be available on draught at Arkell’s pubs and is also on sale at Arkell’s Grape & Grain Wine & Brewery Warehouse, available to the public as individual bottles, in a six-bottle celebratory gift case or a pack of 8x500ml.
Brewery Managing Director George Arkell said: "Pubs are the bedrocks of communities across the country, and we hope customers over the Coronation weekend enjoy the celebrations and come together at their local with family and friends, to toast His Majesty the King with Arkell’s special Coronation Ale.
"It is a fantastic beer for a memorable event."
Head Brewer Alex Arkell said: “In keeping with our long tradition of celebrating royal milestones over our 180 years of brewing we are extremely proud to release this Coronation Ale to honour our King as he is formally crowned.
"We’ll be sending some of the bottled beer to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with many happy memories of the visit of Her Majesty to the Brewery in January 2018.”
Arkell's has brewed beer during the reigns of seven monarchs, beginning with Queen Victoria, and the Arkell family have long enjoyed marking royal milestones.
In 1953 Sir Noel Arkell, High Sheriff of Wiltshire at the time, attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey. He also performed the official opening of Queen’s Park in honour of that year's Coronation.
For many years, Arkell’s have brewed commemorative ales such as The Queen Mother’s Birthday Ale, as well as Golden and Platinum Jubilee Ales in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.
