A Swindon veterinary hospital has expanded its surgical team with the appointment of a new specialist.

Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, which is part of Linnaeus, has welcomed ECVS residency trained small animal surgeon Allie Matchwick to provide support across two of its specialist services; orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.

As a skilled surgeon in two areas of veterinary medicine, Allie makes a valuable addition to the hospital’s growing team of experts and will provide support in two of its fastest growing service areas.

Niki Burton, hospital director at Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Allie to the team at this exciting time of ongoing growth at Eastcott.

“As a highly skilled and ambitious orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon, Allie will be a realasset to both departments and will enable us to enhance the first-class care we provide our patients.”

Allie joins Eastcott following a three-year ECVS residency at fellow multi-disciplinary Linnaeus referral hospital Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, in Hampshire, during which time she published papers on the aetiology of patella luxation and complications post-tibial tuberosity advancement surgery.

She is now studying for ECVS examinations and is also writing a case report on an unusual case of mesenteric volvulus - a type of bowel obstruction - in a Great Dane.

Allie said: “I am pleased to be joining such a well-respected team of surgeons and specialists, and to have the opportunity to provide patients with a high level of care.

“The in-house knowledge and expertise at Eastcott, coupled with the state-of-the-art facilities, ensure we can provide accurate diagnosis and access to the widest range of soft tissue and orthopaedic treatments and procedures.

“I look forward to continuing my professional development alongside the team and working towards completing my ECVS examinations.”

Allie qualified from the University of Bristol in 2012 and worked in a variety of small animal practices in Berkshire and London for four years.

Following completion of a training programme with a group of peripatetic surgeons, she then worked within the group to provide orthopaedic surgery to first opinion practices.

She also holds a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (certAVP) and has passed membership examinations for the Australian and New Zealand Veterinary college (Small Animal Surgery chapter).

Eastcott offers specialist expert care in cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, laparoscopy, neurology, diagnostic imaging, CT and MRI, anaesthesia and analgesia and emergency and critical care.
