Local housebuilder Redrow has announced that nine apprenticeships are now available to local Thames Valley students in the area.

The Redrow Thames Valley’s apprenticeship scheme, which is now open to applicants, will see successful candidates work at developments across the region.

Some of its current developments include Swindon's Badbury Park, which has recently launched a new selection of show homes.

Redrow say the apprenticeships, which have been announced ahead of National Apprenticeship Week (6 - 12 February), will allow students with a passion for construction to build their vocational skills and focus on different aspects of house building, including bricklaying and carpentry.

The intake follows the success of the housebuilder's ongoing apprenticeship scheme, which has been running since 2019. The scheme works to give students in the local area an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a career in housebuilding.

Among the cohort this year is Redrow’s youngest apprentice to date, 16-year-old Harry Evans, who is working towards completing a bricklaying apprenticeship at Redrow Thames Valley’s latest development, Sanderson Park in Bicester.

Harry said: “I come from a long line of trade workers in my family – my uncle is a groundworker, my grandfather is a project manager, and my dad is a landscaper – so it’s only natural that I was attracted to this line of work.

“I live close to a Redrow development so would often see the houses being built on my way to and from school. I always enjoyed seeing the progress made between my walks in the morning and later in the afternoon. As soon as I left school, I explored the different apprenticeships Redrow had to offer and I’m so glad I did – I have loved it from the moment I started, and the resources and support I receive are excellent.

“Bricklaying is a hard craft to learn, and there are many tools and rules to understand, which means you have to be disciplined and hardworking. I find it very rewarding looking back each day and seeing what I’ve achieved, whether it’s repairing walls or helping to finish a house – it makes me feel incredibly proud to see something created from start to finish.”

Sarah Boyce, Sales Director at Redrow Thames Valley, added: “As part of our ongoing commitment to providing local apprenticeships to support and nurture the next generation of housebuilders, we ensure a number of opportunities are made available annually for apprenticeships with our team.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming new apprentices to join Redrow Thames Valley for another year, particularly at such a challenging time for students who have had numerous disruptions to their studies over the last few years. These apprenticeships will provide ambitious learners with the opportunity to step straight into a career where they can gain hands-on experience and continue to learn.

“A large proportion of our apprentices choose to stay with Redrow once they have completed the scheme, becoming experts in their field as a result. We would encourage any school leavers looking for a rewarding career to apply to our scheme – we look forward to welcoming our next group of Redrow apprentices.”

Sanderson Park offers a choice of three and four-bedroom homes from £440,000 and is located just south of Bicester.

Just eight miles from the centre of Oxford, Sanderson Park is said to be within easy reach of the A41, and just a short drive away from the M40, allowing easy access to Oxford and London.

Redrow says regular trains run from Bicester to London Marylebone in around an hour, making Sanderson Park an ideal option for commuters looking for the perfect balance of rural and city living.
