Swindon-based Smiths News has announced its audited results for the 52 weeks ended 29 August 2026.
The firm is the UK's largest news wholesaler and a leading provider of early morning end-to-end supply chain solutions.
Highlights of its performance include national newspaper contract wins, the expansion of its distribution footprint and excellent performance from collectables market, with a record contribution from the FIFA Men’s World Cup and ongoing Pokémon demand.
Revenues came to £1,036.2m.
Smiths News CEO Jonathan Bunting said: “This is a transformational moment for our business.
"We have secured a number of significant, long-term national contracts with leading publishers, providing a sustainable revenue platform through to 2037 and underpinning our ambitions for continued investment and growth.
“The ‘Go National’ programme represents a major step forward, significantly expanding our distribution footprint across Great Britain, strengthening the support we provide to publishers and retailers and creating a platform for further growth. While this investment will have a short-term impact on profitability as we absorb the costs of expansion, we expect the enlarged network to deliver incremental net profit from FY2028, with material benefits from FY2029 and beyond.
“Alongside the strong performance of our collectables and continuing momentum in our growth verticals, these contract wins give us confidence in the long-term prospects of the business. FY2027 has started positively, and our focus now is on executing the national expansion successfully and delivering the significant opportunities it creates.”
