A charity that gives local young people the opportunity to learn and enjoy musical instruments has received a boost this month from Swindon’s Bus Company.
Swindon's Bus Company has recently shown its support for the Swindon Music Trust.
Swindon Music Trust offers a scheme which subsidises the cost of instrumental or vocal tuition for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The organisation also runs regular taster sessions, so anyone interested in learning to play can try out a whole range of different instruments, to discover which they enjoy learning most.
Sharon Cullum, Swindon Music Trust's Managing Trustee, said: “We want to encourage people of all ages and from all backgrounds to enjoy playing an instrument, and performing in front of an audience - and we do numerous things to achieve these goals.
“People are able to try keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, drums, bassoon, oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, cello, violin, trumpet and euphonium under the supervision of qualified instrumental teachers - all at no cost. But, in order to fund this, we rely on the generosity of local individuals and businesses like Swindon’s Bus Company.
“We applied to its community fund, and were delighted to receive £500. I’d like to thank the company for this donation, which will provide local people with the chance to enrich their lives with the gift of music.”
Swindon’s Bus Company operations manager, Paul Coyne, added: “This is our pledge to support those living in our local area. It is important that we maintain strong relationships with local charities, clubs and organisations - and our Community Fund gives us an excellent opportunity to do just that.
“The Swindon’s Bus Company community fund is open to everyone - and we encourage anyone who needs a helping hand, however big or small, to apply.”
The Community Fund is open to applicants in June and December.
