Residents at White Lodge care home in Braydon raised their glasses in celebration of National Beer Day and enjoyed a special drinks trolley service that brought smiles and memories.
The care home organised the cheerful event to mark the national celebration, offering residents a chance to enjoy a variety of beers and other drinks of their choice.
Staff members wheeled around a drinks trolley, allowing residents to select their preferred refreshments.
One resident reminisced during the celebration, saying: “What a selection! My husband used to love a beer, so I’ll drink one on his behalf.” This touching moment, the car home team said, highlighted how such activities could evoke cherished memories for residents.
While many residents enjoyed sampling different beers, two ladies decided to put their own spin on the celebration. Not particularly keen on beer, they enthusiastically opted for large piña coladas instead, demonstrating that the spirit of the day was about enjoyment and choice rather than the specific beverage.
The event was part of White Lodge’s ongoing commitment to providing varied and engaging activities that respect residents’ preferences while creating opportunities for socialisation and enjoyment.
“We believe in creating moments of joy for our residents, and sometimes that means adapting activities to suit individual tastes,” said Ramona Gherendi, General Manager at White Lodge care home.
“National Beer Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to offer something different, and seeing our residents enjoying themselves and sharing stories made it all worthwhile.”
The successful event has encouraged the care home to plan similar celebrations around other national days throughout the year.
White Lodge care home provides nursing, residential and dementia care for respite residents and longer-term care. Its varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
