Bosses announced this morning that the company had called in administrators after bids to secure a rescue deal failed.
The store chain has some 400 branches employing about 12,000 people.
In Swindon, there are branches in the town centre and at Greenbridge Retail Park. There are also branches in Devizes, Trowbridge and Chippenham.
Wilko chief executive Mark Jackson said in an open letter: "We left no stone unturned when it came to preserving this incredible business but must concede that with regret, we've no choice but to take the difficult decision to enter into administration."
The company began 93 years ago with a branch in Leicester and has grown to become one of Britain's largest homeware chains.
