A brand new Your Co-op Food store opened its doors last week in Badbury Park, Swindon, to help serve its local community.

The new convenience store opened within the Swindon housing estate following an investment of £520,000 from The Midcounties Co-operative.

It is said to have created 15 new jobs for the local area.

The store is said to offer essential grocery items, from fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and flowers to a range of wines, spirits and chilled beers.

It will also be home to National Lottery and PayPoint terminals, as well as offering a range of hot and chilled food-to-go.

Allocated car parking will be available for customers, with the inclusion of two electric vehicle charging points also.

Staff say the store has also been fitted with LED lighting and energy efficient refrigerators to help reduce its impact on the environment.

In addition to all Co-op branded packaging being recyclable, the store will also offer a soft plastic recycle unit to enable shoppers to recycle soft plastics such as crisp packets and pet food pouches, which cannot usually be placed in kerbside recycling bins.

As part of the store’s commitment to supporting the local community, a food bank collection point for Swindon Food Collective will also be available, allowing customers to drop off essential items needed by families in the local area.

Your Co-op is part of The Midcounties Co-operative, which is one of the largest independent UK co-operatives and is fully owned by its members.

A spokesperson for the store said: "Customers at the new store will have the option of becoming a member of the Society, giving them access to exclusive deals as well as special offers from across the Your Co-op group of businesses.

"Members also have a say in how the Society is run, including the work it does to support local communities in partnership with local volunteers and community groups, all of which can be easily accessed via the Your Co-op Membership app."

The investment in the new Badbury store is said to be part of Midcounties’ ongoing investment in food retail.

The Society invested more than £3.5 million in seven new store openings last year – in which more than £1 million of this was in the Swindon area – with the recent opening of its Pipers Way store in December, as well as its Abbey Farm store opening on Diamond Crescent in September.

Harry Osborne, store manager at Your Co-op Food in Badbury Park, said:“We’re so excited to be opening the doors of our brand-new convenience store on Badbury Park.

“It’s great to be investing in the local Swindon area, bringing more jobs as well serving and supporting the local community. We’re really looking forward to welcoming members and customers, and I’m sure they’ll be impressed with the wide range of products and services we have on offer.”

The stores’ opening hours will be 7am - 10pm every day throughout the week.
