A Swindon housebuilder is celebrating World Bee Day by constructing a different type of home at many of its developments.
Redrow South West, currently building at Badbury Park, on Homington Avenue, is marking the occasion by installing a special insect home at the development, and multiple others across the region, to help make Swindon a more bee-friendly place.
The bee and bug home has been placed in green space at the development, providing another habitat for little critters and a safe nesting environment for solitary bees, which play a vital role in pollination, but often struggle to find suitable shelter.
The initiative is part of Redrow’s broader mission to promote eco-conscious living and inspire residents to take small but meaningful actions for the planet; creating thriving communities for both people and nature.
Each Redrow community is built with biodiversity in mind, featuring green spaces, wildflower planting, and wetland areas like ponds and swales. These efforts support not only bees but also a wider range of local wildlife.
Sian Smith, Sales Director at Redrow South West, said: “We’re proud to mark World Bee Day by providing a safe home for important pollinators at Badbury Park. Bees play a crucial role in biodiversity and food production and installing our new bee and bug homes across the region is just one example of how we’re creating nature-rich spaces throughout our developments.
“We are also encouraging homeowners to plant wildflowers and introduce insect homes in their own gardens and adopt other eco-friendly practices as part of their everyday lifestyle. Together, we can collectively build a more sustainable future.”
Redrow’s Sustainability Strategy includes a commitment to enhancing green infrastructure and reducing environmental impact. From energy-efficient homes built with responsibly sourced materials, to community green spaces designed to nurture nature, Redrow is helping create places that support both people and planet.
The bee and bug home is now a permanent feature of Badbury Park, where it will continue to provide a safe haven for bees while keeping the importance of pollinators in our environment front-of-mind for residents and visitors.
Badbury Park features a range of Eco Electric and Eco Now homes from Redrow’s award-winning heritage collection, including The Kensington, a four-bedroom Eco Now terrace, built using a highly efficient ‘Fabric-First’ approach, available from £499,000. From the way the property is laid out, to the materials used for the build and high-specification doors, windows and boilers, everything is designed to offer greater energy efficiency, enabling homeowners to save over £970* a year on energy bills compared to a second hand home.
Also available is The Ledsham, a detached Eco Electric home featuring four bedrooms and even more energy-efficient fetaures, including underfloor heating across the ground floor, thicker insulation and an Air Source Heat Pump as standard. Prices for The Ledsham start at £615,000.
