Police have released CCTV images following an assault in Swindon where a man had his jaw broken and then had his necklace stolen by two passers-by who pretended to come to his aid.
It happened in Bridge Street in the early hours of 21/12/19, when the victim, a local 19-year-old man, had been on a night out in the town. He was seriously assaulted by two men who left him unconscious on the ground. While he was unconscious on the floor, two other men went to his aid, but used the opportunity to remove a necklace from around his neck. The victim was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and has since undergone surgery for a broken jaw. An 18-year-old man from Faringdon has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, interviewed and released on conditional bail while enquiries continue. Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID, said: “This was a nasty assault which left the victim with serious injuries which required surgery. “What has made this even worse, is that while he was lying unconscious in the street, instead of being Good Samaritans and helping this injured man, two people approached him and stole his necklace. “We are releasing five CCTV images as part of our enquiries – three are of a man we want to speak to in connection with the initial assault, while the other two pictures are of two people we want to speak to in connection with the theft. “Please look through the images and call us if you have any information which could assist our enquiries.” Anyone who recognises the men, or the men themselves, are asked to call Swindon CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54190126196. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. |
