Two local runners, Neil Houghton and Aurélie Soulier (Team Hope), will be taking on the Clock Change Goggins Challenge this weekend in support of The Lily Foundation, a UK charity that supports families affected by mitochondrial disease. They plan to run, rest, eat, and repeat for 48h.
The challenge (aka 4x4x48), inspired by endurance athlete David Goggins, involves running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. Because the clocks go back an hour on Sunday, they will complete 13 runs instead of 12, making this a true test of stamina and mental grit.
The challenge starts at 6pm tonight, from the Orbital shopping park in North Swindon.
They are hoping the local running community will join some runs, and they have published a schedule of events on Strava. Runners from Slinn Allstars, and the “Training in Swindon” group have already pledged to join Neil and Aurélie for some runs and support them.
Run schedule:
Fri 24 Oct: 18:00, 22:00
Sat 25 Oct: 02:00, 06:00, 09:00 (Seven Fields parkrun + 1 mile), 14:00, 18:00, 22:00
Sun 26 Oct: 02:00 (BST), 02:00 (GMT), 06:00, 10:00, 14:00 (finale).
The challenge is not only about the distance, but also battling sleep deprivation and fueling well for each run for 48h.
Funds raised will go in aid of The Lily Foundation, helping to support vital research and improve the lives of those affected by mitochondrial disease.

“The clock change adds a twist: one more run when we least want it! We certainly won't be fast, but it’s all for an incredible cause, and we’d love local runners to join us to keep us motivated, especially in the small hours.”
