A community-driven initiative dedicated to crafting comfort for those in need has received a £500 grant from the National Lottery.

The Swindon Big Knit will use the funds to support the creation of hand-knitted and crocheted blankets, wool hats, and other warm items for homeless, needy, and vulnerable people in Swindon.

A spokesperson said: "The Swindon Big Knit has been a labour of love, bringing together local knitters and crocheters with a shared mission: to provide warmth and care to those facing hardships.

"With the ongoing winter months and the cost of living crisis and massive energy bills, this funding comes at a crucial time, enabling the group to purchase yarn and expand their outreach efforts.

"The National Lottery’s support is more than just financial; it’s a recognition of the power of community action and the difference it can make in people’s lives. The Swindon Big Knit is not only about creating physical warmth but also about fostering a sense of community and belonging."

The Swindon Big Knit invites everyone, from seasoned stitchers to novices eager to learn, to join their cause.

The spokesperson added: "Together, we can knit a tapestry of compassion that blankets our community with hope and support."
