A call is going out to support the Community Fridge in Gorse Hill which helps hundreds of people across the town suffering during the cost of living crisis.

The Community Fridge in Gorse Hill picks up food from supermarkets that is past its best before date but is still good enough to eat, to give out to people for free.

The team at Gorse Hill Baptist Church started the programme in June 2021, in partnership with Hubbub, and has now saved a massive 82 metric tonnes of food waste from going to landfill – that’s the weight of around 700,000 bananas!

The Community Fridge (SN2 1AA) is open every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11am to 2pm, and everyone is welcome – no referral is needed.

Agencies like Citizens Advice Swindon, Healthwatch and Swindon Carers also attend to give advice to visitors.

They take donations of any food past its best before date or excess food from gardens and allotments from you or your business during opening hours.
