A group of local ladies headed by Tess Murphy from Blunsdon are holding a Black Tie Ball in aid of the Prospect Hospice.
Tess Murphy, Clare Arthurs, Lucia Arthurs and Nicky Rutter will be holding the event on Saturday 20 September 2025 at The Village Hotel, Shaw.
The evening will start with a red-carpet arrival, welcome drink, 3 course meal, entertainment, a raffle and an auction. The ladies are working on lots of other things to make this a memorable, enjoyable evening whilst raising awareness and funds for such an important cause. Tickets are available from 31 March 2025 for £55 each. Tables will be for between 10 and 12 people.
Tess decided to organise this event after hearing last year that the Prospect Hospice in Swindon, whilst having the capacity to run 16 beds, was only able to run 10 beds due to a lack of funding. Since then the number has gone down to 6.
She immediately signed up for their monthly draw, and started taking all the bits she would have sold herself, decided to donate them to the Prospect Hospice charity shops. Tess said: “I still felt I needed to do more. After personally knowing the truly amazing role that hospices do, from my own experience and through friends, I truly believe that when someone is facing a terminal, or a life-limiting illness, hospice care is invaluable to both the patient and their families.”
Tess who works as a support worker decided to take on this task having previously organised a similar event in 2012, said: “It’s not a small task organising something like this but I felt that it was so important I really wanted to help. With my lovely friends helping the four of us will make sure that we make it a really great event. Of course, we can’t do it without support of local businesses and people attending."
Jeremy Lune, CEO at Prospect Hospice, said: “Every year Prospect Hospice supports hundreds of families across Swindon and the surrounding areas who are going through one of life’s hardest journeys. We want to be there to care for each and every person with a life-limiting illness who needs us.
“That is why we are so grateful to Tess, Clare, Lucia & Nicky for all the hard work they are putting in to organising this event. The funds raised help Prospect Hospice to make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of people and their loved ones every day. Thank you, ladies,”
The money Tess, Nicky, Clare & Lucia raise will go towards Prospect Hospice’s vital services, such as the charity’s inpatient unit and Prospect@Home care service.
