Following an overwhelming number of donations of items received over the last few weeks, a local charity has had to make the decision to temporarily pause its donation stations for the second time.

Prospect Hospice has received thousands of donations of goods since it opened its donation stations in July. Its shops and distribution centre are now full with items to sell and the team needs time to sort these, after their period of quarantine.

Victoria Canavan, head of retail at Prospect Hospice said: “When we opened our donation stations back in June we had no idea how well they would be supported and it’s been heart-warming to see just how much people want to support the hospice at this time.

"When we paused our donation stations again in July, we didn’t know if people would come back but the ongoing support has been incredible. We now need to take some time to safely sort these donations and get these to our shops and out for sale.

“We very much hope to be able to open our donation stations again soon and we’re looking at ways we can make this more flexible and convenient for our donors.”

The hospice’s distribution centre team is now working hard to sort through all the donations received and to get these out to the charity’s shops around Swindon and north east Wiltshire over the coming weeks. They have thousands of items to sort through and this is also being done in line with government safety guidelines which includes placing all donated items in quarantine for 72 hours.

Ms Canavan continued: “We will let supporters know as soon as we are able to accept pre-loved goods again. However, anyone who has items of furniture they would like to donate can still do this using our furniture booking system, calling us on 01793 813362.

“I would like to thank everyone for their patience in keeping hold of their items for just a little bit longer. Thank you as well to everyone who has already donated so far for your extraordinary support of Prospect Hospice at this time.”

Thanks to generous supporters there are now even more bargains to be had as hospice shops and end of season sales have also now begun. To find out more about hospice shops, visit https://www.prospect-hospice.net/retail.
