Donors reminded to keep RSPCA legacies local

They can do this by naming the local branch specifically in their will.
The organisation says many people don’t realise that while the RSPCA operates under one well-known name, local branches are separate, independent charities. This means that gifts left simply to ‘the RSPCA’ go directly to the national society, not to local branches.
People who want their kindness to directly benefit animals in Wiltshire and Newbury should include the branch’s full name in their will - RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury Branch (Registered Charity Number: 1207040).
Richard Clowes, CEO of RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury, said: “As an independent charity, RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury is responsible for raising our own funds. 
"While the branch proudly shares the RSPCA’s mission and values, it does not automatically receive funding from the national society.
“We know that people who choose to leave a gift in their will do so because they care deeply about animals and wildlife, but they’re often surprised to learn that a gift left to ‘the RSPCA’ won’t reach us here in Wiltshire. 
"That’s why we’re reminding people, if you’d like your legacy to help animals right here, it’s essential to name RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury Branch specifically.”
Marie Morrissey, Fundraising and Website Manager, said: “We’re so grateful for the incredible community that supports us, but the truth is, without local people leaving local legacies, our work simply wouldn’t be possible. 
"Every gift, no matter how small, helps us be there for animals in need, today and long into the future.
“Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most powerful ways to make sure your compassion continues to change lives long after you’re gone. 
"For many supporters, it’s a heartfelt way to say thank you for a lifetime of love from the animals they’ve known and cherished.”
Each year, the RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury team works tirelessly across the region, rescuing wildlife, treating injuries, and caring for animals in need. They help around 4,000 animals find safety and new homes annually, powered almost entirely by local kindness through donations, volunteers, and gifts in wills.
That support funds over 24,000 hours of wildlife care and veterinary treatment for more than 500 animals every year. 
Even a small percentage of a legacy can make a huge difference - helping to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife, provide vital vet care, and rehome abandoned, stray, and neglected cats through the branch’s fostering and rehoming programme.
