The team at Swindon-based Dick Lovett’s Lovett Foundation have announced a £100,000 pledge to the Wiltshire Community Foundation.
It will be used to support young people currently in and leaving care in Swindon and Wiltshire.
The Lovett Foundation was set up by motoring dealership Dick Lovett in 2019, and supports children in care and young adults leaving care across the South West and Wales, giving them support, life skills training, and experiences that will contribute to a brighter future.
Emma Newton, Trustee at Dick Lovett’s Lovett Foundation said: “We are so pleased to have partnered with Wiltshire Community Foundation and be contributing to the Care Leavers Programme.
“The commitment over five years to a structured programme will mean our donations can make a bigger impact in the local area.
“We hope to be able to work in partnership with the charities who are delivering the programme to contribute to a brighter future for young people leaving care in Swindon and Wiltshire.
“If you are interested in the work The Lovett Foundation does, you can get in touch by emailing [email protected].”
Aside from donations and physical items, The Lovett Foundation also works with charity groups to offer work-related skills and development opportunities to young people who would benefit from help, offering assistance with CV writing, work experience and interview skills.
The Wiltshire Community Foundation connects charities and local businesses to maximise fundraising opportunities for vital charitable activity.
In the new partnership, Dick Lovett will be contributing to Wiltshire Community Foundation’s national campaign, the Care Leavers Programme.
The campaign will focus on three key areas: mentoring, educational and vocational bursaries, and experiences that will help support the personal development of young people leaving care.
Through the support and funding, the Care Leavers Programme also hopes to tackle challenges that care leavers face, such as the increased risk of homelessness - something that a third of young people experience within the first two years of leaving care.
These young people often experience a gap in support when leaving the care system, which is why The Lovett Foundation identified the need to offer support and funding to contribute towards giving these young people a brighter future.
Oliver Selfe, Philanthropy Director at the Wiltshire Community Foundation, said: “This is an outstanding commitment from Dick Lovett to agree to help fund the project for five years and will mean that the programme can have a greater and more sustained impact.
“We are extremely grateful for their generosity.”
