A brand-new community fundraising event has been announced by Prospect Hospice.
Men’s Walk to Support, proudly supported by Swindon Town Football Club, will bring men together to walk, talk and support one another whilst raising vital funds for local hospice care.
Taking place on Saturday 18 April, the eight-mile walk will see hundreds of men gather at Prospect Hospice in Wroughton before setting off through Swindon, finishing at The County Ground in time to watch Swindon Town play at home.
As Swindon Town FC’s Headline Charity of the Year for the 2025/26 season, Prospect Hospice is working closely with the club to create an event rooted in community, connection and shared local pride.
Ben Lee, Head of Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said: “The Men’s Walk to Support has been created to offer men a different kind of space. One where they can walk side by side, talk if they want to and feel supported without pressure.
"The event is about the wider mental health challenges men face - not just grief, but stress, loss and the things that are often hard to put into words.
"Walking together, rather than sitting face to face, can make conversations feel easier. That simple idea is at the heart of the event.”
The fully-marshalled eight-mile route leads participants through Swindon’s best-known landmarks, including the Old Town Railway Path, the Wilts & Berks Canal, the Designer Outlet and the Railway Village, before ending at The County Ground, the home of Swindon Town FC.
The walkers will round off their effort with a free drink and food before taking their seats for the match with Accrington Stanley. A perfect ending of community spirit and camaraderie.
Men and boys aged eight and over are invited to take part, whether walking in memory of someone they love, supporting a friend or simply wanting to be part of something positive and meaningful.
Participants can walk with family, friends, colleagues or come along on their own and connect along the way. Supporters are encouraged to get involved by cheering walkers on or volunteering on the day.
Prospect Hospice says the event is more than a walk - it’s a chance to open up, listen, support and be supported - all while helping Prospect Hospice continue delivering specialist end-of-life care for local patients and families.
