On Saturday 19 October Old Town will host a unique event encompassing culture, fashion, and solidarity for the people of Ukraine.

Spirit of Resistance is a cultural charity event that promises to be as thought-provoking as it is inspiring. Taking place at Christ Church in Old Town, it will showcase the richness of Ukrainian heritage and raise crucial funds for volunteer medics on the frontlines of the war.

At the heart of the event is a striking Vyshyvanka fashion show, where traditional Ukrainian embroidered garments become symbols of defiance and cultural identity.

A spokesperson said: "However, it is more than a catwalk - it’s a visual statement of resilience, with each piece representing Ukraine's rich heritage amid ongoing conflict.

"The evening will also feature theatrical storytelling, offering powerful narratives of survival, strength, and hope that will move and inspire. Alongside this, a contemporary art auction will give attendees the chance to bid on original works from Ukrainian artists, with proceeds going directly to Hospitallers and PDMSH (The First Voluntary Mobile Hospital), volunteer medical teams risking their lives to save people on the frontline.

"During the interval, you can indulge in authentic Ukrainian food and drink, with all donations supporting this vital cause. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of £10, with every pound raised helping to provide emergency medical care in Ukraine.

"This isn’t just an event — it’s a chance to be part of something bigger. Join us in standing with Ukraine, celebrating its culture, and making a tangible difference."
