The Swing Birds will be taking centre stage at Christ Church in Old Town on Saturday 1 June to raise money for Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (SDASS).

Each year, The High Sheriff of Wiltshire hosts a charity concert on behalf of Rotary Swindon Cares, the fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Swindon.

This year, High Sheriff Dr Olivia Chapple will be bringing women to the forefront, using the vibrant tunes and melodies from 16-piece Swing Birds to raise much needed funds to support women, men and children who are experiencing and fleeing from domestic abuse in Swindon.

Last year’s concert raised over £4,500 for SDASS; money that went to ensuring that one in five people in Swindon who experience domestic abuse can be supported through the charity’s range of community support, dedicated refuge service and through the telephone advice line that’s manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Nicky Alberry, Chair of SDASS and Rotary member responsible for organising the concert, said: “We’re delighted that the Swing Birds will be taking centre stage to help us raise much-needed funds and awareness of the ongoing issue of domestic abuse – as well as what to do if you, or someone you know, is currently experiencing this.

“Having the town’s biggest and best all-female big band is perfect for this night and it’s sure to be a wonderful evening of musical entertainment.

"From classic swing to contemporary hits, they'll have everyone dancing in their seats and make a difference to hundreds of women, men and children in Swindon.”

Tickets are £20 for the concert followed by a reception afterwards, or £10 to attend only the concert.

They can be purchased online at: @swingbirds

Alternatively people can email [email protected] or contact the Christ Church Parish office.

People who need advice for themselves or a friend relating to domestic abuse are urged to call the confidential 24/7 helpline, which is always answered by an advisor, on 01793 610610.
