Three good causes across Swindon and Wiltshire received a welcome boost when Tesco team members handed out £3,000.

Wiltshire Treehouse was able to celebrate after receiving a cheque for £1,500, which will provide bereavement support for grieving children, young people and their families living in Swindon and Wiltshire.

Another organisation to receive funding was Marlborough Cricket Club, which was awarded£1,000 to buy cricket kit and equipment to help young people develop a range of personal and sporting skills.
The third good cause to be awarded funds was Coombe End Court in Marlborough, which received £500 so that staff can arrange for penguins into the visit the care home, as well as paying for further entertainment to be booked for residents.
The funding came from Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme in partnership with the charity Groundwork, which supports many Wiltshire community projects and good causes, giving away thousands of pounds.
Amanda Black, the Community Fundraiser at Wiltshire Treehouse, said: “We’re very grateful to Tesco for this funding. It will make a lot of difference to many young people within our shared community.
“Wiltshire Treehouse believes that every child and young person should have access to support during their grieving process. We enable our communities to improve the coping strategies, skills and confidence needed to manage daily life better when supporting a child or young person who is bereaved.
“We are dedicated to offering free, high-quality bereavement support to children and young people. We provide free advice and guidance to families and professionals who are concerned about a bereaved child.
“Wiltshire Treehouse also runs free bereavement support programmes for children and young people who are struggling with their grief. These programmes use age-appropriate group work to help grieving children and young people enhance their emotional literacy and better understand their grief journey.”
The funding given to Wiltshire Treehouse will go towards supporting children, young people and their parents and carers to move forward with their grief while ensuring a lasting connection with their special person who has died.
Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “We’re delighted that we can help groups and clubs across Wiltshire with these grants.
“Stronger Starts invites our customers to use their blue tokens to vote for local schemes they feel will benefit children and young people, and it’s so good to see the impact that the funding makes.”
Wiltshire shoppers can support local school and children’s groups by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
