Three young women are to tackle a 3000 mile charity row across the Atlantic Ocean, including Meg Neely from Swindon.

In December 2026 Meg and teammates, Jenna and Liv will be attempting to become the youngest team of three women to ever row across the Atlantic Ocean.

They will be fundraising for three incredible charities, each doing vital work in their local communities. Meg said: “ My chosen charity is Best Mates #wegotya, a Swindon-based organisation that connects people going through tough times with someone who’s been there.

“Their mission is simple but powerful: to be a “best mate” whenever someone needs one. From emotional support to practical help, Best Mates steps in where it matters most.”

Meg grew up in Swindon, Wiltshire, and loved sports. She tried everything from cricket and netball to ice skating and rock climbing. However, after undergoing spinal surgery for scoliosis in 2016, she struggled to find her way back into sports.

That changed in 2021 when she discovered rowing. She was hooked from her first (admittedly rather dodgy) stroke - the sport reignited her passion for movement. As an adult, opportunities to try something completely new can be rare, but learning to row from scratch was a powerful reminder that growth comes from embracing discomfort and trusting yourself to adapt.

For Meg, rowing the Atlantic isn’t just about the challenge — it’s a chance to give back to a cause close to her heart. She’s raising money for Best Mates, a Swindon-based charity that offers something we all need during tough times: someone who truly understands.

Meg knows how important it is to have a support network around you — but not everyone has that. Best Mates steps in to pair people with someone who’s been in their shoes and made it through. From mental health struggles to financial hardship, their peer-led support changes lives in a real, personal way.

Meg said: “I’m also sharing here to ask if any local companies would be interested in sponsoring our team. I’d absolutely love to bring the Swindon community with us on our adventure across the Atlantic - your support would mean the world and help us make this record-breaking journey possible. Please contact if you are interested, and we can share our sponsorship pack with you.

“If you’d like to follow our journey, get involved, or help support the cause our Facebook page is Just Row With It and on Instagram we are Just Row WIth It 2026 or email [email protected]."
