The TWIGS Community Garden at Manor Garden Centre in Cheney Manor will be open to the public on Sunday, 18 July from noon to 4pm.

The two-acre community garden, created and maintained by volunteers, is part of the National Garden Scheme, which gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 outstanding private gardens in England and Wales, and raises money for nursing and health charities.

NGS has donated more than £60m over the years, with beneficiaries including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.

The mission of TWIGS is to give people who experience mental health problems the chance to regain confidence and self esteem, and to learn new skills.

The community garden is actually seven individual display gardens, and other features include an ornamental pond, a plant nursery and a wildflower area.

On 18 July admission will be priced at £3.50 for adults, with no charge for children. There will be home-made teas and hot and cold lunches at the Olive Tree cafe at the adjacent Manor Garden Centre, with pre-booking required for the cafe.

TWIGS can be contacted on 01793 523294, at [email protected] and via its website, www.twigscommunitygardens.org.uk

The number to call for cafe bookings is 01793 533152.
