Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) is pleased to announce a new initiative aimed at supporting veterans and ex-service men and women in the Swindon area.
Thanks to funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust Men’s Shed project, VAS will now offer assisted transportation free of charge to veterans who require assistance traveling to and from their events.
Working with Swindon Community Action, this service is designed to help veterans who do not have the means to travel independently to our support sessions in Swindon.
Beginning Monday, 19 February, veterans can utilise this transportation service to attend our weekly Monday woodwork sessions in Penhill and our end-of-the-month Tuesday drop-in and social in Swindon town centre. This initiative will run until 30 April 30.
Woodwork sessions are held every Monday from 10am to 1pm at Renew Swindon, located at the community centre, Chippenham Cl, Swindon SN2 5DB. For those utilising the transportation service, collection will be after 10am from your nominated address, with return transportation provided at 1pm.
Support drop-ins occur on the last Tuesday of each month at Sanford House, Sanford Street SN1 1HE, running from 11:30am to 2:30pm. Veterans can expect collection from their nominated address starting at 11.30am, with return transportation provided at 2:00pm.
"We recognise the challenges some veterans face in accessing our programs due to transportation barriers," said VAS. "With the generous support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, we are glad to offer this service to ensure that all veterans in our community can participate in our activities."
For veterans interested in signing up for the service, please contact Alana Fiorelli via email at [email protected] for registration details.
