Former long-serving employees of Highworth Recreation Centre, Sandra Chivers and Ray Parry, will be returning for the grand opening of the new swimming pool changing village this Saturday.
The launch is part of an Open Day being run by the Rec, where many of the centre’s facilities and classes will be free to try. Ray and Sandra have over 50 years combined service at Highworth Rec.
Nathan Hall, Manager at Highworth Recreation Centre said: "We're really delighted to welcome back Ray and Sandra for Highworth Recreation Centre’s Open Day and swimming pool changing village grand opening.
‘Those who regularly use the centre will know that our changing facilities have needed updating for some time. With the refurbishment finished, Highworth Recreation Centre will now have the modern changing village that is befitting our excellent facilities."
The new changing village also includes a state-of-the-art changing room for visitors with disabilities.
Keith Williams, lead cabinet member for leisure at Swindon Borough Council said: "Leisure activities are a great way to improve health, build confidence and socialise; therefore it is vital we provide facilities that are accessible to everyone. The new changing village at Highworth Recreation Centre goes a long way towards ensuring this."
The refurbishment was achieved with funding from the Swindon Borough Council capital budget, Highworth Trustees, Sport England Inspired Facilities Fund, and the Aiming High for Disabled Children Grant (also through Swindon Borough Council).
Highworth Recreation Centre Open Day takes place from 8.30am to 5pm, on Saturday 28 February. Sandra Chivers and Ray Parry will be cutting the ribbon for the grand opening of the new swimming pool changing village at 1pm. For further information and a full timetable of events.
