Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly couple were threatened during a burglary in Wroughton last night.
It happened between 9pm and 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday 18/08/19) at a property in Woodland View.
A group of people forced their way into the home and threatened the occupants, a couple in their 70s.
They demanded money and made off with around £300 in cash.
Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID, said: “Luckily the couple were not physically injured during the burglary, but understandably they have been left shaken by what happened and are being supported by family.
“Our initial enquiries suggest the group fled the scene in a silver or grey car when they were disturbed by a neighbour who noticed the front door had been smashed.
“We believe the vehicle, which may have been an Audi A6, turned right out of Woodland View towards the centre of Wroughton.
“We want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in Wroughton last night? Perhaps you have private CCTV or dash cam footage which may have captured the suspects or their car?”
Inspector Al Lumley, from Swindon South Community Policing Team, said local police would be carrying out increased patrols in and around Wroughton.
He said: “I know that an incident like this will be worrying for the local community and I want to reassure you that we will be doing everything we can to apprehend these offenders.
“These types of burglaries are rare, but nevertheless are alarming, and I know local people will be feeling unnerved.
“We will have an increased police presence in the area while our investigations are ongoing, so please feel free to approach an officer and either provide information which could assist, or talk to them about your concerns.”
