Bridlewood Primary School and Nursery has decided to join the growing Swindon-based Multi Academy Trust - The Park Academies Trust (TPAT).

Bridlewood becomes the third Primary school in the Trust - which now has five schools plus the Trust Sixth Form.

Bridlewood Primary School was formally welcomed to the Trust at a staff event on Monday 5 December.

Head Teacher Vicky Sammon said: ”We are delighted to join the growing number of schools in The Park Academies Trust family. We already have committed members of staff, working hard for the children in our care, and now we can also benefit from the wider support of the whole TPAT team.

"The expertise gained from being part of an all-through 3-18 educational system, coupled with a strong central team, means the opportunities to work together, learn from each other and share strong practice will benefit both the pupils and staff at Bridlewood going forward.”

Benedick Ashmore-Short, CEO, TPAT said: “Bridlewood is a fantastic Primary school and already has close links with our Secondary schools. I’m very pleased they’ve now chosen to join our growing Trust and really strengthen our links. The Park Academies Trust is setting out to be one of the leading Multi Academy Trusts in the South West.

"We are building a family of like-minded local schools focused on raising the aspirations of pupils, parents and staff alike. We come together as one, focussed on what’s best for all of our children and as a Trust we understand the importance of education from Early Years, Primary and right the way through to Sixth Form."

Bridlewood Primary School originally opened in mobile classrooms in 2003, for just Reception and Year 1 pupils before the main school building was finished.

The school then officially opened during Easter in 2004, with one class of pupils from Year 2-6 taught by the current deputy head, Mrs Nicola Mclaughlin.

By the time the first headteacher Jane Rodbourn left in 2008, the school was said to be thriving and firmly embedded at the heart of the community.

The current headteacher, Mrs Vicky Sammon took up her post in 2017. She said she was determined to re-establish Bridlewood as a ‘Good’ school.

In 2018, the school was said to have made exceptional progress with pupil outcomes, which have been maintained ever since. Despite the challenges of covid-19, the school achieved a deserved ‘Good’ grading from Ofsted in 2021, but was already looking to establish strong links with other local schools in the area.

The Bridlewood team said they chose The Park Academies Trust because it is a local, forward-thinking Trust which can provide both the security and ambition for Bridlewood to join up with the other schools in TPAT.
