A minor fire earlier today at The Dorcan Academy prompted a decision to close tomorrow - Thursday 9 January - for safety checks.
Earlier today the school announced on social media: "For your information there was a minor fire in school this afternoon that has affected one classroom. All students are safe. The exit at the end of the day has been disrupted as we guide students to collect belongings.
"We will update you as to any changes to access this week because buildings must be checked now prior to further use. Thank you for your understanding."
Not long afterwards the school posted another message: "Further to our previous post we are sorry to inform you that the school will be closed tomorrow whilst we check the buildings to ensure they are safe. We hope to open on Friday but will be unable to make a decision on this until tomorrow afternoon. We will send messages then on school comms and social media to update you."
The message added that staff had been asked to set remote work for pupils.
