The Lainesmead Library Bus has been officially opened by South Swindon Labour Parliamentary Candidate Heidi Alexander - a former Lainesmead School pupil.
The celebration marked a significant milestone for the school community, as children, staff and the parents marked the culmination of four years of hard work towards the creation of a new library space.
Many of those who contributed to the project attended the grand opening, including representatives of Cross Street Garage, whose generous assistance played a pivotal role in bringing the Library Bus to fruition.
The Friends of Lainesmead were also recognized for their tireless fundraising efforts, which helped make the dream of a new library a reality for the school. Mr. Bateman, who in his own time painted the bus with famous storybook characters, was also warmly thanked for his exceptional creativity, bringing whimsy and imagination to the new space.
Reactions from delighted pupils included: "It’s very nice and a lovely surprise!", "It's just SO cool!", "There are lots of lovely details included, like the huge TV and colourful floor" and "It's a lovely place to read and relax!"
The Lainesmead Library Bus promises to be not just a place of learning, but also a sanctuary for imagination and exploration during lunch times as well as in lessons.
With its welcoming atmosphere and wealth of literary treasures, those responsible for its creation say it is sure to become a cherished asset within the school community for years to come.
