Lawn Manor Academy pupils have designed a new smoothie for health-conscious Old Town Business The Core.

They were inspired by The Core's founder, Kris Talikowski, who visited the school as part of a career-focused personal development day and gave them an insight into his background and inspiration when setting up the healthy food and juice bar.

Coinciding with his visit, pupils were challenged to create their own smoothie recipe, as well as design the branding for their drink.

Three teams were shortlisted and the winning teams were invited to The Core to make their recipes. Pupils were encouraged to consider health benefits and taste when creating their recipes, as well as designing an eye-catching label to make their drinks stand out.

The winning drink was Caribbean Concoction, a recipe devised by Year 7 pupils Izabela, Lexi, Emma, Eva and Nhi.  Their mix of mango, peach, orange and pineapple was accompanied by beach inspired branding.

Caribbean Concoction will be a special addition to The Cores menu over the Easter school holidays, from 7-21 April.

Dan Jacklin, Head of Aspirations and Futures at Lawn Manor Academy, said: Learning about local success stories and the hard work that has gone behind the businesses that they see in Swindon really helps to inspire our pupils and show them that they can achieve whatever they put their mind to.

"Were very grateful to Kris for coming into the school to share his story and inviting us to The Core to see everything in action."

Kris added: "Its so important to get young people thinking about their health from an early age, especially when it comes to enjoying fruit and veg in fun, creative ways.

"Designing their own smoothies helped the pupils see that getting your 5 a day doesn’t have to be boring and can be something to be proud of. We were really impressed by their ideas and are excited to serve their Caribbean Concoction at The Core.”

Lawn Manor Academy is part of the Ascend Learning Trust, and more information about the school can be found at www.lawnmanor.org.
