Lawn Manor Academy pupils will be travelling to New York to perform at Times Square, and are calling on Swindon businesses to help make it happen.
Next July, the iconic location will host 14 pupils from Lawn Manor Academy, giving them the opportunity to perform under the evening lights of Times Square representing the school and the UK alongside dancers from all around the world. They will also be taking part in an exclusive workshop with a cast member from a Broadway show to help them develop their dancing skills.
Pupils will start learning the special choreography for this international show after Christmas, however to support their trip, the school is now appealing for local support to help dreams come true.
A range of school fundraising events are already in the pipeline to support the costs of the trip but there is still the opportunity for local businesses to support Swindon’s dancers show their skills in New York.
Head of Dance at Lawn Manor Academy, Natasha Dixon, said: “This is the first time that Lawn Manor Academy is able to take pupils to America. It's truly going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience to perform in Times Square in front of hundreds of people, and I can't wait to see their faces light up.
“However, in order to reduce the pressure of the costs of the trip on our families, we’ve come up with some great fundraising ideas including a bake sale and sponsored walk from Swindon to Marlborough and back.
“It costs just over £2,000 per pupil for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, plus costs for costumes and other minor expenses. So, we’re also appealing for any local businesses who would like to help, either by sponsoring a pupil or providing some of the clothing and equipment we need to take with us.”
