Tomorrow (7 February) will see New College hold an Apprenticeship Fair at its North Star campus to showcase its array of available programme options.

New College staff say they are celebrating the college's cohort of over 900 apprentices during this year's National Apprenticeship Week (6 -12 February).

An Apprenticeship Fair will be held at the College's North Star campus on 7 February, between 4 - 6pm.

New College are offering an extensive provision of apprenticeship programmes, and have recently expanded into higher and degree-level apprenticeships, with the opening of the Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology (SAWIOT).

The SAWIOT is an inclusive centre that has been created to help address the demand and supply for key technical and digital roles in the region.

Matt Butcher, Chief Commercial Strategy Officer, New College Swindon said: “Apprenticeships are now one of the highest priorities for businesses looking to future-proof their skills.

“Businesses of all sizes know that there is no better way to get the skills they need. At New College Swindon we work with an amazing range of businesses to help them recruit their stars of the future, and grow the skills of their existing employees.”

New College staff say their Swindon apprentices are employed across a wide range of industries in the town and across the Wiltshire area, including construction and electrical trades, finance, motor vehicle, early years and teaching, customer services, cookery, computing and engineering.

The College has been rated number 30 in the top 50 Training Providers list by its apprentices on RateMyApprentice 2022/23.

Apprenticeships have become a popular career pathway for both school leavers and adults already in employment like first-year Mechatronics Engineering apprentice, Marketa Novakova.

Marketa finished school in the Czech Republic in 2009 before moving to the United Kingdom and has been working for Catalent for over five years.

Marketa said: “It’s been scary but exciting at the same time. Before I started my apprenticeship I was working at the same company as a production operator and my engineering colleagues encouraged me to apply as an apprentice.

"I like taking part in the practical work and enjoy how I can study and gain experience at the same time and then apply my new knowledge in the workplace straightaway. “

The apprentices at New College Swindon are supported by a dedicated Apprenticeship team who say they ensure that their growth and development needs are prioritised.

The team will be available to answer any questions about apprenticeship careers at the Apprenticeship Fair on Tuesday 7 February from 4pm - 6pm.
