Drove Primary School has officially opened its brand-new library space; the first dedicated library space the school has had for over a decade.

The primary school, part of The White Horse Federation, was delighted to welcome Swindon authors Kayleigh Smith and Kate Claxton to attend the opening and cut the ribbon on Friday 6 June 2025. The local authors also read to the pupils and held a book signing.

The library was established through significant support and effort, made possible by a grant from The Foyle Foundation, support from Swindon Soroptimists, and the National Literacy Trust. Local artist Lavender Joyce also kindly contributed with her wonderful artwork.

The bright and airy space has been celebrated by pupils, who queued excitedly to meet the authors and explore the new library for the first time. Formerly an underused room in the school, it has been lovingly converted into an inviting and functional area where the children can focus on their reading.

Headteacher, Bryony Bardwell said: "We are very grateful to all our supporters and especially our reading lead, Rachel Liddiard, for getting the library up and running. This was her vision, and she brought it all together. We cannot wait for the children at Drove to start using the space and continue their love for reading."

Dr Dan Nicholls, CEO at The White Horse Federation said: "Books play a pivotal role in every child's education, opening up numerous worlds that inspire learning. We are thrilled with the library renovation at Drove Primary School, which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff and our ongoing commitment to inspiring lives."

The Swindon Soroptimists commented (on social media): "[We] were delighted to be at this exciting event! Well done to Rachel, Bryony & all the staff, it's an amazing space! Thanks to all our supporters who have provided some of the well over 2000 books we've donated since 2014."

Katie Claxton commented (on social media): "It was such a pleasure to come and be part of your celebrations and share ‘My Mum's a Tiger’ book with the children."
