Purton Museum's 'Education at St Mary's School' exhibition ran from April to October this year, and will return for 2023.
A chance to reminisce was offered this year by the Purton Museum and Purton Historical Society volunteers, within their museum exhibition on ‘Education at St Mary’s school.'
The exhibition featured a curated collection of items including class photos, press coverage and the Head’s 1986 school logbook, all of which was made available on short term loan from the St Mary’s School.
Within the exhibition, press coverage, photos and records all highlighted the challenges of the ageing old school building. Entries in Mr Bisset’s logbook from 1986 discussed various matters, including the ‘leaking roof.'
The Head’s logbook also offered further insights into daily activities such as ‘winning the netball shield’ at the Malmsbury football and netball tournament, Bishop Peter’s visit to assembly, the PTAs ‘successful family quiz’ and the open evening when, ‘only four teachers available due to sanctions.’
A spokesperson from the council said: "Team, class, and album photos, all gave a more personal opportunity to explore our own stories and we were invited to play an active role in continuing to develop records by identifying ourselves, fellow pupils, and teachers."
Funded by both parish council grants and vital donations from visitors, such exhibitions are selected, curated, and created by local volunteers who have given their own time.

The museum will open again on the first Saturday of April in 2023, and will remain open every Saturday until the last weekend of October 2023.
