With RWBA Trust preparing to launch as Ascend Learning Trust next month, celebrations began early as A level results came in from its three high performing sixth forms.
Staff at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy in Swindon, Kingsbury Green Academy in Calne, and The Wellington Academy in Tidworth have been celebrating with their students as they collected their A-Level results.
In a year that has seen a massive drop nationally in top grades, the sixth form teams say they were delighted to shun this trend with incredible results from their Year 13 contingent.
Head of RWBA sixth form Katharine Salmon said: "We are absolutely delighted with the results. The students have worked so hard under difficult circumstances.
"Two students got into Oxford, which is amazing. Most of our students, over 100, got into their first choices. Our grades are better than in 2019, which is the last time we had exams."
The results are broked down below:
32% A* to A
54% A* to B
74% A* to C
Kingsbury Green Academy also bucked this trend with its highest number of A* and A grades ever.
Principle Jason Tudor said: “After the most turbulent period in recent educational history, it would have been reasonable to expect that students would have struggled to perform in these exams. However, our students have shown determination and resolve and have achieved outstanding grades that they should be extremely proud of.”
Students are going on to study at universities such as St Andrew’s, Warwick, Bristol and Liverpool.
The Trust’s only sixth form with boarding facilities, The Wellington Academy in Tidworth, also saw record success with a vast majority of students achieving their first choice of university including: The London School of Economics, Winchester, Exeter and Loughborough.
Head of Sixth Form Dave Bissington said: “Having seen their GCSEs cancelled in 2020 and then facing additional challenges over their two years they have shown phenomenal resilience and determination to complete their courses to their best possible standard.
"The range of destinations demonstrates that students really can move into any field they set their heart on and I know all students are well equipped for whatever challenges may come their way moving forward.”
Those wishing to find out more about the Trust’s sixth Forms can attend open evenings that are scheduled for the new school year: RWBA - 12 October, The Wellington Academy - 03 November, Kingsbury Green Academy - 10 November.
