Former St Johns Ambulance schools’ trainer Gilly Boote from Devizes has set up Trust First Aid, offering training for children and young people via schools, Scout and Brownie groups and youth clubs.

gilly boote with 2nd freshbrook browniesCommenting on the importance of learning first aid Gilly said: “It’s such an important life skill, giving children the confidence to be effective in an emergency situation, but also fostering communication, care, compassion and team working.”

Gilly started Trust First Aid in September and made an impression on Freshbrook Brownie pack, where she helped the girls work through their first aid badge.

Describing the session, Gilly said: “We were there for three hours on Saturday morning and covered practical aspects, including bleeding, shock, bone injury, burns and scolds, dialling 999 and CPR.

“There is a lot of variety in the programme. The girls had a lot of fun and the parents said it was very worthwhile.”
