Level III have announced that the much-loved music venue will be closing as of this month, following their last gig headlined by Frank Turner.

In a statement, Level III owners said: "One of the most rewarding things about working for a music venue is seeing the talent of your local scene at close quarters, and we've been incredibly lucky in this regard. Bands like Rain, Ghost of Machines, All Ears Avow, Yves, A Way With Words, With Ghosts, GETRZ, Xadium, Bradley Cowtan, Last Call, Ursus, Heartwork, Dreamcatcher., Erase The Rat, Roads To Nowhere, Post12 and Shepherds Pie are among the many, many locals who we've enjoyed watching tear it up in the past 12 months (sorry we haven't included you all). Watching them has been a reminder of this town's potential to delight and surprise in equal measure and we're profoundly thankful for the privilege.

"It's with this in mind that we share some upsetting news. Due to cost of operation pressures Level III (and the pub upstairs, The Rolleston Arms) we'll sadly be closing its doors after our sold out show with Frank Turner January 20. We're immensely upset and disappointed that after over a year of impressive progress the team behind the venue have not been able to do enough to keep the doors open. It's hard to feel like anything other than we've let you down - and we're sorry.

"We'd also like to thank all current (and former) members of staff for their contribution to the venue.

"Those who have kept their eyes on the live music of this town will know that the road back to a vibrant music scene is not an easy one, despite many people's best efforts. Often it feels like we take one step forward and two steps back. Today definitely feels like one of those times.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has come to a show or a club night, bought a ticket and a drink, brought a friend or supported us in any other way. Your support has made this tenure worthwhile and we'd like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We'd also like to pay special attention to Sheer Music, Southwesthardcore, Status Promotions, Songs of Praise, The Academy of Music and Sound Swindon, Darren Dust, Bloodstock Festival, Amplified Festival UK and Fat Boy's Charity. Your partnership has been truly appreciated.

"On a final note, despite our imminent closure there's no guarantee we'll be closed for good and Level III and The Rolleston may well live to fight another day. Lets hope for this town's arts, music and nightlife scene that it does.

"If you're lucky enough to have a ticket for Frank Turner we'll see you then for an epic sold-out show. If not, we'll see you when we see you."
