GALLERY: Commonweal is the latest school to team up with Swindon City of Sanctuary

Last week a 'School of Sanctuary' launch event was hosted by Commonweal School.

The concept behind the collaboration between schools across the region and City of Sanctuary is to develop the already open and welcoming ethos toward asylum seekers and refugees.

Delegates from primary and secondary schools from around the South West collaborated to plan for their year ahead, promoting and embedding the ideals behind the project.

Supported and led by City of Sanctuary, delegates worked together to develop their ideas. With a focus on celebrating the diversity in Swindon's community, The Commonweal School and Swindon City of Sanctuary hope to continue to build on an inclusive culture both within and beyond the school walls.

A spokesperson for Commonweal School said: "It was a wonderful opportunity to hear about the work already being done. And it will be a rewarding journey ahead, working towards gaining Schools of Sanctuary status over the next year."
