GALLERY: Youngsters at Nova Hreod and Swindon Academy celebrate record GCSE results

Youngsters at Swindon’s Secondary Schools were celebrating a bumper crop of GCSE results this morning.

Nova Hreod Academy recorded their highest ever result - with 63% of students achieving five or more A*-C grades including a 4 or above in both English and maths. Their result builds on last year’s record success.

There were particularly strong performances in the core subjects with an 80% pass rate in English and a 72% pass rate in maths. Students also performed particularly well in chemistry, biology, physics, geography, history, religious education and art.

This year, grades in English and maths have moved to a numeric scale with 9 being equivalent to a high A*.

Among the high achievers from the school were:

Cerys Poole – 7 x grades AA inc ‘9’ in English Language and English Literature

Lauren Sweatman – 6 x grades AA inc ‘9’ in Mathematics

Hannah Myer – 8 x grades AA

Lacy McKee - 8 x grades AA

Ella Cleary - 8 x grades AA

Kayley Whitfield – 6 x grades AA

Eric Collins – 5 x grades AA

Alex Russell – 4 x grades AA inc ‘9’ in Mathematics

Darren Barton, Principal of Nova Hreod Academy, said: “I would like to congratulate all of our students and staff on their very hard work in achieving these strong GCSE results. I am particularly pleased that we have achieved such good results in the core subjects of English and maths.”

Nova Hreod’s success was echoed by results at Swindon Academy which is celebrating its best ever GCSE results. 65% of students achieved five or more A*-C grades including a 4 or above in both English and maths.

Stand out results were recorded by:

Dalveen Sandhu who achieved nine A*s and one A grade.

Christina Pham who achieved four A*s and six A grades.

Jack England who achieved four A*s, three As and two B grades.

Lewis Musto who achieved two A*s and seven A grades.

Two of the above pupils achieved the very highest grade possible in the new maths and English GCSEs.  Jack scored 9 in maths and Dalveen scored 9 in English Literature.

Ruth Robinson, Principal of Swindon Academy, said: “Everyone is absolutely delighted with these results which are the best the academy has ever achieved.  These results are a real credit to the students and staff who have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and I congratulate them all on their achievements.

"These results round off a great year for Swindon Academy in which we were judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted and achieved a very strong set of A Level results.  All in all, we have much to celebrate and we can look forward to the next academic year with enthusiasm and confidence.”
